Install the Face to Face Interaction Recorder using silent distribution

You can install the Face to Face Interaction Recorder software and Configuration Publisher software using silent distribution.

Silent distribution allows you to push software packages from a central location to workstations over the network, using any standard software distribution tool. The distribution tool automatically installs the application(s) without requiring user intervention.

Before you begin 

To authenticate the desktop software with the central API, you must obtain an internal API key via Enterprise Manager. You will use this as the Data Center Token Authentication Key during installation. Take note of the Data Center Server Host Name, as you will need this as well. "API Keys" in the Enterprise Manager online help

Procedure 

  1. Define a Shared Folder to Save the Installation Files:

    The installation scripts are saved here. Ensure that the workstations can access this location.

    1. Right-click the defined folder and select the Properties > Sharing tab:
      • Select Share this folder.
      • Click Permissions.
      • Grant the Domain Computers group Read rights.
    2. Click the Security tab, and grant the Domain Computers group Read, Read and Execute, and List Folder Contents rights.
  2. Define the Installation Destination: Define the location on the workstations on which to install the Face to Face Interaction Recorder.
  3. Define a Group Policy: The installation can then be assigned to the relevant group of workstations, and the application(s) are automatically installed next time these workstations are rebooted.
  4. Set up your parameters, referring to the table and examples below. Note that:
    • Mandatory parameters must be included and cannot be changed.
    • Silent install parameters are case sensitive and must be capitalized.
  5. Run the distribution script(s) using a standard silent distribution method. If the script contains an installation package for an application already on the workstation, the installation recognizes this and will not reinstall the application.
  6. On completion:

    EXIT_CODE = 0 indicates installation success

    EXIT_CODE = 1 indicates installation failure and the workstation reboots silently.

  7. The next time the workstations in the defined organizational unit are restarted, the application(s) are installed.

Running the script does not repair faulty installations.
