Upgrade and migration overview

This guide provides procedures for upgrading and migrating your KMS system. Use this information to determine whether you need to upgrade or migrate your KMS system.

When do I upgrade versus migrate?

  • Upgrade. If you are reusing the same hardware for version 3.5.2 as was used for earlier versions, use the appropriate upgrade procedures.

  • Migration. If you are using new hardware for version 3.5.2, use the appropriate migration procedures.

KMS migration sequence

You must upgrade or migrate the KMS in the sequence shown.

If the current version is...

Then upgrade or migrate in the following sequence...

2.0.1

  • migrate 2.0.1 to 2.7.1

  • continue to 2.7.1 below

2.7.1

  • if using the same KMS, and the Recording system is version 11.2 or 15.1, upgrade Windows Server and SQL Server to the latest supported version specified in Supported OS and SQL Server

  • upgrade or migrate 2.7.1 to 3.5.2

3.2.1

  • if using the same KMS, upgrade Windows Server and SQL Server to the latest supported version specified in Supported OS and SQL Server

  • upgrade or migrate 3.2.1 to 3.5.2
