Amazon S3 Glacier storage

Amazon S3 Glacier is a low-cost storage service that provides secure, durable, and flexible storage for data backup and archival. With Amazon S3 Glacier, customers can reliably store their data for as little as $0.004 per gigabyte per month.

Upload requests are priced from $0.05 per 1,000 requests. Archives stored in S3 Glacier have a minimum 90 days of storage. Archives deleted before 90 days incur a pro-rated charge equal to the storage charge for the remaining days.

Data retrieval rates

There are three ways to retrieve data from Amazon S3 Glacier. Each has a different per-GB retrieval fee and per-archive request fee. Requesting one archive counts as one request.

  • Expedited retrievals cost $0.03 per GB and $0.01 per request.

  • Standard retrievals cost $0.01 per GB and $0.05 per 1,000 requests.

  • Bulk retrievals cost $0.0025 per GB and $0.025 per 1,000 requests.

Data retrieval time

When a user tries to replay an interaction archived in Glacier, the time to retrieve the data depends on the tier associated with the account.

  • With expedited retrieval, the replay can start in seconds. However, If the time to retrieve the data exceeds the 30-second timeout, the user is prompted to try again.

  • With the slower restore options (Standard, Bulk), the user receives a message, "Media not available - retry in a few minutes," even though the retrieval can take up to several hours.
