Schedule an automatic CipherTrust backup

Scheduling an automatic CipherTrust backup involves setting up the system to regularly save encryption keys and configurations to a secure location. This is typically done by a system administrator using the CipherTrust Manager interface or command-line tools. The process occurs within the CipherTrust environment, where the administrator configures the backup frequency, destination (such as an encrypted network storage or local secure directory), and retention policies. Automatic backups help ensure data recovery and security compliance by maintaining up-to-date copies without manual intervention.

For scheduling automatic backup, Verint supports system backup.

Verint supports storing a backup on the SCP (Secure Copy Protocol).

Before you begin

  • Ensure that you have a backup key created. For further details, refer to Add the CipherTrust KMS Backup Key in Related topics.

Backup keys used in the automatic backup schedule on the primary server must be imported on the secondary server.

  • Ensure that there is enough space available on the SCP server for the backup.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the designated primary CipherTrust Manager server.

  2. Go to Admin Settings. Under Schedules, select Add Schedule.

  3. On the Select Schedule Type page, select System Backup and click Next.

  4. On the General Info page, provide the following and then click Next:

    1. Provide the Schedule Name and Description.

    2. To copy all the scheduled backups to an external storage, select Enable SCP Schedule and select an SCP connection.

  5. On the Schedule Config page, provide schedule config details which include the Duration and RUN AT and then click Next:

The scheduler configuration must be set to run every day after the key rotation schedule runs under the configured domain.

The key rotation schedule is auto-created by Verint Application server to rotate keys every day at 1:00 AM UTC.

The RUN AT helps to schedule backup right after the key rotation so that every new key is part of the backup.

For example, if key rotation schedule is at 1:00 AM UTC, then backup rotation can be set at 1:15 AM UTC.

  6. On the System Backup Properties page, provide the following and click Add Schedule:

    1. Enter the System Backup Properties, such as Number of backups to retain you want to keep on server or leave blank to keep all backups.

    2. Select the system backup key.
