Create transfer drives for EMC Centera migration

To copy the contents of the EMC Centera drive to the transfer drives, use the Archive media migration feature. The original contents of the EMC Centera drive remain on the original media along with the database representation of the interactions. Although referred to as "transfer," this task performs a copy operation, not a move operation.

Iterative data transfer by year

To ensure migration efficiency and to simplify progress tracking, segment data by year. For example, if the EMC Centera drive contains five years of data, complete this task five times and use the date filters provided to limit the scope of the transfer to successive years for the first four iterations. For the final iteration that includes active captures, create an open-ended segment with no end date.

Before you begin

Procedure

  1. In Recorder Manager, under Operations, find the Archive group and select Drives.

  2. Define the target drive:

    1. Select Create.

    2. Select the Drive Type for the target drive.

      For example, Amazon S3.

    3. For Drive Mode, select Transfer drive.

    4. As the Source Drive Name, use the drop-down to select the Replay drive that contains the source data. The replay drive is the EMC Centera drive.

    5. Complete the remaining drive definition as appropriate for the drive. All other transfer drive settings (encrypt contents, content type, and similar) apply and affect how data is written to the destination media.

      • To have previously unencrypted data encrypted during the transfer process, enable Encrypt Contents.

      • To speed up media transfer using date-based parallel processing, configure the Media Transfer Drive:

        1. Select Transfer by date (all day).

        2. In From, choose the start date for the transfer. Transfers start at 00:00:00 on the selected day.

        3. Optional. In To, choose the end date for the transfer. Transfers include data up to 23:59:59 on the selected date. If left blank, all data from the "From" date onward is included.

As a safeguard, overlapping date ranges for the same source-destination pair are blocked to prevent duplicate transfers.

  3. Save the new drive settings.

After saving the drive settings, the system updates the archiver service with the new drive information.
